Man suffered severe brain injury and damage to optic nerve - case settled after 2.5 years
Mr A suffered a severe brain injury and damage to his optic nerve (leaving him with very little useful vision - he is now registered blind), when the car in which he was a passenger lost control. As a result of the accident Mr A is no longer able to live independently. He is very unlikely to be able to work. Mr A has not come to terms with his injury and won’t accept any residential rehab or any long cane training, as he is still so self conscious about the blindness. In addition he has problems with lack of insight, memory and concentration difficulties, anger and can be very short tempered. Although compensation of £1 million was awarded the damages were reduced by 25% for his failure to wear a seatbelt (so it was equivalent to £1.33 million on a full liability basis). The personal injury case settled after just 2 and a half years.
